The Opportunity

Leverage your leadership, expertise, and apply for the Premium Audit Technical Manager role! The Premium Audit Technical Manager will be responsible for the overall technical skills and proficiency level of the staff in the premium audit department. The role requires a high degree of technical knowledge developed through both insurance premium audit industry experience and ongoing professional development. Primary responsibilities include the development of technical standards required to elevate Field Managers, Field Auditors, Virtual Auditors, Audit Reviewers, and Audit Service Representatives to “Industry Expert” levels.

This remote role will allow you to do your best work from your home office, collaborating virtually with your team daily. You will travel to our Raleigh office for meetings and company events up to four times a year.

Your WORK as a Premium Audit Technical Manager will make a difference as you:

Develop and maintain skill proficiency levels for each role in the premium audit department.
Develop, maintain, and present technical training courses and materials for staff auditors including newly hired field and virtual auditors.
Along with the Field Premium Audit Managers and Premium Audit Service Manager, validate skill proficiency levels achieved by each role.
Partner with Director of Premium Audit to create and lead training plans that increase expertise for auditors.
Develop and manage department external training process for existing and prospective policyholders, agents, HBA’s and other business-related opportunities.
Develop and maintain training content and communications, develop trainers, and ensure materials are properly branded to support this value-added service.
Lead external training to educate our partners on audit-related matters, including audit statements, procedures, classifications, and worksheets.
Act as the “technical expert” for Premium Audit
Develop, contribute, and monitor internally and externally provided content, including content provided to Builders Mutual’s thought leadership program.
Act as liaison to premium audit organizations and training organizations, assisting with course development as time permits and disseminating learnings to Builders Mutual staff when relevant.
Remain informed of changes and current information relative to premium auditing through discussions with industry experts and review of industry related literature.
Lead the Quality Program for Premium Audit
Conduct quality reviews of independent fee company auditors’ work products to ensure regulatory rules and company guidelines are met and to identify training issues.
Conduct quality assurance co-travel engagements with field staff to ensure best practices are applied consistently and to better understand the training needs of the audit staff.
Coordinate with the Field Managers to ensure the field quality assurance (QA) program is effectively analyzing the necessary skills and technical knowledge required to meet proficiency levels. Use QA results to develop ongoing training.
Provide support for large account strategy.
Provide support and develop materials for new business consultations and provide support for large account strategy.
In conjunction with large account strategies, schedule and conduct physical audits of selected commercial lines policies by reviewing the customer’s business operations, including examining, verifying, and recording pertinent classification-related data from financial business records. At times, this may include pre-issuance audit consultation.
Provide leadership for designated department projects as required.

SKILLS to get the JOB done RIGHT:

Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of experience in insurance Premium Audit; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
Strong computer skills (MS Office), mainframe experience a plus
Excellent customer service skills and excellent verbal and written skills.
Excellent presentation skills and ability to comfortably train in large settings (40+). Must have prior training experience, including designing and implementing programs.
Highly effective in time management and problem solving.
An exceptional understanding of insurance company home office management processes, issues, and requirements
High degree of experience and technical knowledge of the NCCI and ISO manual rules as they relate to the classification and calculation of exposures to determine the appropriate premium for the coverages provided by the policies assigned to be audited.
Travel Requirements

Working with both our internal staff and external industry partners, travel out of town at least 25% with an occasional longer trip may be required.
