The General Fitness Exam will consist of an on-line multiple choice examination assessing fundamental knowledge for the position and competency in the Spanish language. This examination meets the requirements for the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.

3. Structured Oral Interview - Date TBD
The Structured Oral Interview will be before a panel and contain questions that assess technical knowledge, experience, and one's general fitness for successful performance in the position in both English and Spanish.

A total score will be computed using weighted scores on all testing components. Applicants must receive a passing score on the oral examination to be placed on the year-long eligibility list. The top 3 ranks (scores) on the eligibility list are eligible for the hiring interview for each vacancy in this classification within the life of the list.

BASIC POSITION FUNCTION
Under supervision of certificated staff, perform a variety of instructional and clerical duties related to the English Language Development Program. Duties will require the ability to translate and interpret both written and oral communications in English and Spanish. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Positions in this class are established principally to assist teachers with the instruction and assessment of English Language Learners. The Paraprofessional/Bilingual-Spanish is required to speak, read, and write Spanish in working with students designated as English Learners. The Paraprofessional/Bilingual-Spanish must be able to interpret effectively for Spanish-speaking parents. Paraprofessionals/Bilingual-Spanish must work directly with students in the classroom setting, helping them to have full access to the curriculum by translating or interpreting the instructional material. The primary function of this position is to provide meaningful input for the students so that they will have successful grade-level experiences. Paraprofessionals/Bilingual-Spanish must have strong academic skills and must be able to express those skills in Spanish and English.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


Listen to and assist students in reading, spelling, mathematics, and all other subjects according to instructions and guidance from a teacher; assist with assessments in English and Spanish; collect and assemble files; distribute resource materials; operate various office equipment such as a typewriter, computer, photocopy machine, and calculator; observe and record student performance as directed by the teacher or supervisor; review lessons and activities in Spanish and English; review a lesson in Spanish in order to provide meaningful input according to instructions from a teacher; perform related duties as requested.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS


Experience: Experience in working with students in a school setting is desirable. Education: High school diploma or the equivalent required. Two years (48 semester credits) of college or university study at an accredited institution of higher learning is desirable.

Work with individual and small groups of students in a classroom;

Explain academic skills to students;

Understand and follow oral and written directions;
Use word processing programs and make entries in computer programs;
Operate office equipment.

MEDICAL/PRESCRIPTION INSURANCE: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 27.5 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in a variety of District plans. Employee contribution amount towards a premium varies based on medical plan. Family coverage is also available with an additional employee monthly paid premium. NOTE: Employees with assignments fewer than 27.5 hours per week are eligible to participate / buy-in into medical plans at full cost.

DENTAL INSURANCE : Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family dental insurance.


VISION CARE INSURANCE : Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family vision insurance.

HOLIDAYS : Up to fourteen paid holidays per year.

LIFE INSURANCE : Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family life insurance.

VACATION : Employees with one to three years of service earn 12 vacation days per year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn vacation on a pro rata basis). The number of vacation days earned increases with longevity up to 20 days per year after 15 years of service.

SICK LEAVE : One day per month, cumulative from year to year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn sick leave on a pro rata basis).

RETIREMENT : Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 4 or more hours daily AND at least 20 hours weekly are covered by Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security. Contributions are made by both the employee and employer. Click to visit website.

SALARY STEP MOVEMENT : First day of fiscal year (July 1st) for those employees in working status at least 75% of work year.

LONGEVITY COMPENSATION : Upon completion of 7, 10, 14, 20, 24, and 29 years of service from the hire date, employees receive an additional 2 1/2% salary increase.

REPRESENTATION: Classified staff (with the exception of Campus Safety Assistants) are represented by Chapter 620, CSEA.
