Job Summary:
The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive communications and marketing program designed to enhance the Township’s image and ensure effective communication with Oak Park residents. This position reports directly to the Township Manager.
Oak Park Township provides a wide array of social services aimed at enhancing the well-being of residents across all stages of life. We support seniors, youth, and people with disabilities, while also addressing challenges such as mental health, substance abuse, unemployment, and more. Additionally, we assist residents in understanding property assessments and potential tax savings through appeals or exemptions.
Essential Functions:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a strategic communications and marketing plan to promote the Township’s services and initiatives.
- Serve as the primary contact for public relations activities, ensuring consistent messaging and coordination across the organization.
- Coordinate public information campaigns to enhance public understanding of Township programs and services.
- Assist in the creation and distribution of key Township publications, including the annual budget, financial reports, and the Oak Park Township Annual Impact Report.
- Ensure brand consistency and adherence to visual identity standards across all communications.
- Develop production schedules and collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather content for communications materials.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of promotional materials for Township programs and events, ensuring proper placement across digital platforms, including the website and social media.
- Manage the Content Coordinator as well as contracted consultants.
- Organize and maintain content for posting at Township sites and oversee the maintenance of the Township website calendar.
- Collaborate with program staff to develop video content that highlights the Township’s programs and services.
- Maintain regular communication with local media outlets in coordination with the Township Manager and department heads.
- Ensure that photos and other media are captured for various Township programs and activities.
Additional Functions:
- Attend bi-monthly meetings with the Oak Park Area Communicators group to stay informed about local communications efforts.
- Provide writing and editing support to staff for internal and external communications, ensuring consistency and professionalism in messaging.
- Assist in the creation and updating of Township signage as needed.
- Support the development of presentations and speeches for Township officials.
- Stay informed about emerging trends in communications, public relations, and social services within the local government sector.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Township Manager.
Requirements:
The qualifications listed below are guidelines. Education and Experience: - Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or community engagement, preferably within a local government or social services environment.
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Understanding of online communication strategies, including social media and website management.
- Familiarity with email marketing tools, such as Constant Contact, and other digital platforms.
- Experience managing external consultants, including graphic designers, photographers, and social media consultants.
- Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment, initiative, and integrity.
Physical Abilities:
- Sit, keyboard, read, write, add, hear, and speak for extended periods.
- Normal office condition for majority of work. May include variation in temperature.
- Lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
