Job Description

SAVA is seeking a candidate to fill the position of an investigator with to the USAO to conduct thorough and systematic investigations within the jurisdiction of the USAO in Abingdon, Va. SAVA’s investigator will handle cases as a team member. Cases will involve sensitive matters or prominent individuals, organizations, or corporations and may involve obscure leads, uncooperative witnesses, and conflicting evidence. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today! Responsibilities Assists in planning and conducting financial analysis with AUSAs, supervisory attorneys and/or law enforcement. Performs quantitative, qualitative, or other analysis of relevant facts; and prepares the results to support the mission of the USAO - VAW. This financial analysis may determine how criminal organizations are committing financial crimes, laundering, and concealing their illicit profit. The investigator will analyze and determine whether there have been violations of Federal Statutes warranting further investigation, i.e. Money Laundering, 18 U.S.C. §§ 1956 and 1957; Unlicensed Money Remitter, 18 U.S.C. § 1960 and 31 U.S.C. § 5322; Structuring, 18 U.S.C. § 5324; Tax Conspiracy, 18 U.S.C. § 371; Receipt of Currency Reporting, 31 U.S.C. § 5331; Tax Evasion, 26 U.S.C. § 7201; Wire Fraud, 18 U.S.C. § 1343; Mail Fraud, 18 U.S.C. § 1341; and other related crimes and provides that information to AUSAs. Analyzes evidence from other investigators and law enforcement officers to clarify the target suspect’s or organization's pattern of operations, identify information relevant to legal issues, and recommend valuable approaches to the AUSA or other members of the investigative team. The investigator will assist the AUSA with devising methods for effectively obtaining, preserving, and presenting evidence. Examines statements, timelines, scientific, or technical data, to assist AUSA in preparing for successful litigation. Conducts asset investigations, verifies employment, and conducts financial analysis to ensure that the target has the ability to pay monetary penalties. Develops a financial profile of the organization that includes the history of events or the restructuring of partial or inadequate records that will help in USAO investigation. Compiles and prepares reports of findings, including appropriate recommendations and exhibits (e.g., prepare a summary of recommendations based on evidence). Uses electronic databases to identify assets, documents and other physical evidence. Prepares interim and final reports on progress of financial analysis for use by AUSAs and supervisory attorneys. Assists AUSAs in trial preparations and works with paralegal specialists, litigation support specialists and others in compiling documents and physical evidence, creating detailed exhibits, charts, graphs, summaries, videotapes, and other audio-visual materials for use in motions and at trial. Uses financial reports and automated systems to review complex data and transactions. Prepares concise interim and final reports on progress of investigations for use by AUSAs and supervisory attorneys. Which includes significant findings and conclusions, recommendations for additional investigative actions, and assessments of strengths and weaknesses of documentary evidence, or other aspects of the case. Prepares detailed charts and schedules as necessary to illustrate analysis. Qualifications U.S. Citizenship. Ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance. Minimum 4 years of experience in planning and conducting civil or criminal complex investigations concerning misuse of public, private, or insurance funds. Law enforcement experience is preferred. Minimum 7 years of experience conducting background investigations. Working knowledge of current investigative techniques including the use of commercial databases and other sources of information. (Lexis/Nexis, Accurint, AutoTrackXP, Westlaw, Credit Bureau reports and Pacers). Must have a valid driver's license. Desired Qualifications: Experience in analyzing, organizing, and presenting a large volume of data through the use of common software programs. Experience in financial investigations. Experience in reviewing and understanding medical records and knowledge of medical billing procedures. Experience in interviewing potential witnesses.
