Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus two years of professional experience or a combination of related education and professional experience totaling six years.
• Demonstrated experience in accounting/fund accounting, budget development, and/or other financial management.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with people from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and identities.

Job Responsibilities:

Financial Management and Accounting 25%

• Review, monitor, and reconcile financial activity for sponsored and non-sponsored funds, to ensure appropriate fund usage; initiate and process journal entry corrections.
• Provide consistent and informative communication through routine interactions with assigned units and administrative staff.

Reporting and Analysis 25%

• Develop routine, customized, and ad hoc financial reporting for assigned departments; gathering data from a variety of sources.
• Analyze fiscal data for anomalies; investigate anomalies and recommend solutions.
• Develop and present fiscal trending and projections data that inform faculty, Department Heads, staff, etc.

Budgeting 20%

• Prepare budgets for assigned departments, centers, and programs.
• Ensure budget deadlines are met and fiscal year-end close-out.
• Identify gaps in revenue and/or expense.

Sponsor Projects 30%

• Assist with sponsored proposal development for various federal and state agencies including review of agency requirements, verification that budgets meet university and agency guidelines, and accurate and timely submissions of proposals through the University of Minnesota (U of M) system.
• Assist staff with strategic budgeting in the visioning and preparation of extramural grant proposals, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
• Assist with biennial RFP development, review and help ensure that applicants’ budgets conform to RFP requirements and that proposed match is appropriate.
• Work with external principal investigators (PIs)
• Perform accounting support to monitor expenditures, provide financial reports to PIs, and process no-cost extensions.
• Work with PIs and Sponsored Financial Reporting (SFR) to ensure all external reporting requirements and all match requirements have been met.
• Act as liaison among, Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA), and partners regarding research projects, monitoring, etc.
• Provide pre-award and post-award support to staff.

UMD Office of Budget & Analysis as a component of the Vice Chancellor of Finance & Operations unit is charged with:

• Providing oversight and analysis for all Academic Units, Auxiliary Enterprises, Athletics, Facilities Management and more
• Coordinating annual budget process
• Overseeing UMD's RRC
