Job Summary
The Detailer is a key contributor to Rio Grande Co.’s structural steel division. This role is responsible for producing accurate and detailed shop drawings from architectural and structural plans using industry-leading software. The Detailer ensures efficient fabrication planning, supports the sales team, and contributes to timely and cost-effective project execution.
Essential Functions
1. Interpret and analyze architectural and structural blueprints to produce precise shop drawings and material take-offs.
2. Create detailed shop drawings using AutoCAD, TEKLA, Blue Steel, Autodesk, ProSteel, or similar software.
3. Develop and maintain a scheduling system that tracks lead times, supports project timelines, and enhances customer service.
4. Collaborate with the Outside Sales Team to communicate project timelines, resource needs, and customer expectations effectively.

Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
· 3-5 years of experience working directly with detailing software (AutoCAD, TEKLA, etc.)
· Proficiency in creating material take-offs, labor estimates, and time completion projections
· Ability to read, interpret, and critique structural and architectural drawings
· Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
· Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform routine physical activities (bending, kneeling, standing)
Preferred Qualifications:
· 2- or 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business—or equivalent work experience
· Familiarity with fabrication tools and equipment such as shears, brakes, punch presses, drill presses, and forklifts
· Knowledge of welding and fabrication shop practices

- Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Working Conditions
Work Environment:
· Constant exposure to a fabrication shop environment with adherence to OSHA safety standards
· Frequent work in an office environment using computers and scheduling software
Physical Demands:
· Occasionally required to lift up to 75 lbs
· Frequently required to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel
· Occasional outdoor work
· Occasional non-CDL driving responsibilities
Additional Information
Compensation range for this position is $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
