We are looking for a dynamic Database Administrator to join our team! The Database Administrator (DBA) for the Medical Disability Examination (MDE) Audit program is to ensure the integrity, performance, and security of the program's database and data-related systems. This encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, from designing and implementing database solutions to conducting in-depth data analysis and providing actionable insights. The Junior Database Administrator (DBA) will administrate a robust and scalable database environment that supports the program's operational and strategic goals. In the first 90 days, you will: Gain a proficient understanding of the MDE Audit program's current state Partner with DBA and MDE Audit leadership to design, develop, and maintain a program database While learning about the current state, identify process opportunities and solutions for advancing automation Responsibilities Maintain, update, and archive database content and design. This includes updating the content and schema of data models that define data structure and relationships. The DBA works with stakeholders to ensure the database meets changing requirements Ensure databases are running efficiently and are optimized for the best performance. This includes regular maintenance tasks, performance tuning, and capacity planning Lead database-related communication and education among business and data analysts. This could include assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring all stakeholders follow best practices in database management Implement and maintain stringent security measures to protect sensitive medical data. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and specific government data handling and privacy standards Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans to prevent data loss and ensure data availability during system failures or disasters Monitor data quality and integrity within the database(s). Implement best practices and operation-specific processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of medical and disability examination data Work closely with IT teams, medical professionals, and department management to support data needs, resolve database-related issues, and contribute to projects requiring database expertise Provide support for reporting needs, including designing views and stored procedures to prepare data for analysis and reporting purposes Requirements Bachelor's degree 4 years of database administrator experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for conveying information and concepts to non-technical stakeholders and for working collaboratively with IT teams and client stakeholders Strong technical skills in database management systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle), proficiency in MySQL (or any standard flavor of SQL), and experience with database design, setup, maintenance, and performance optimization Basic project management skills to manage timelines, resources, and documentation for database-related projects Willingness to adapt to new technologies and methodologies that could benefit the Medical Disability Examination Office's database infrastructure Must be eligible to obtain a Veterans Affairs Public Trust Clearance (NACI background investigation Skills Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automating routine database tasks and processes Previous experience with database administration within a healthcare, medical, or government setting, emphasizing handling sensitive or classified information Experience with Azure Data Factory and Power BI Understanding healthcare-related regulations, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), to ensure compliance in handling and storing sensitive medical information CATHEXIS offers competitive compensation packages to all eligible employees. Our goal is to provide a compensation package that reflects the value you bring to our team, is competitive with market rates, and promotes your financial security and personal well-being. The annual salary range for this role is $70,000 - $90,000. Please note that the salary information provided is a general guideline.
